Sunday night we received a call from a gentleman in Plant City. He had been spending some time with friends in Manatee County when they noticed what at first glance looked like a huge slug moving toward them. When they were able to take a good look at it they quickly realized it was not a slimmy slug but rather a fuzzy little skunk. He picked it up knowing that without mom the little guy wouldn’t have a chance to survive. When they got home he started to provide care for the baby while he looked into who to call. When our transporter arrived the baby was in great shape and taken straight into Kris for care. He weighed in at 45 grams and was active and vocal. While the gentleman who rescued him named in Pepe Le Pew, Kris renamed him Flower after the skunk in Bambi because that movie is what inspired her as a child to work with animals! Luckily for Flower we have plenty of other furry friends to keep him company as he grows included two older skunks who came into our good friends at Nature’s World Wildlife Rescue.
If you happen to find any wildlife in trouble please make sure you report it to a licensed rescue organization like Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife so that it can receive the care and treatment it needs. We also ask that you consider making a donation to Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife so that we may continue our work which includes the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wildlife in the Tampa Bay Area.
